Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21 NKJV)

When I was a child, I witnessed how my mother being treated unfairly and yet she was able to remain calm and taught us her children not to exercise revenge but to love those who persecuted us. "Stay focus on what you do and finish it", she reminded us. Isn't it what Jesus demonstrated on the cross when He said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” (Luke 23:34 NKJV) ? Jesus stayed focus on the mission He was sent on, and that mission was to die on the cross to pay the penalty for the sin of those who believed in Him. Jesus could call a legion of angels to destroy those who hated Him but if He did it, He would not accomplish His calling.

Jesus clearly taught us a lesson while He was on the cross and that lesson was, "It is not what happens to us, but how we respond to it that counts". Romans 12:21 says it very clear, "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good". How do we respond to someone who drove recklessly and gave us his lovely finger? Will we respond the same? Will we let our emotion take charge? If we choose to follow our emotion and we let evil get the best of us, will we not be the same as those who do not know the Lord? It is a saying that I heard when I was a small child, "the dogs bark, but the caravan goes on". Isn't it foolish if we choose to stop just because a dog barks at us while passing a couple who walk their dog?

One may have gone through tribulations, being humiliated publically, being bullied, put to shame by his friends or being ridiculed by others but if he chose to stop pursuing his dreams, he would not arrive at his final destination. The way he responded would determine his tomorrow. If he chose to be a victim, his future would look dim but if he chose to focus on pursuing his dreams, he would eventually arrive at his final destination. God has given us a good mind why not using it? At the end of the day becoming a victim or a victor is in our power of making (giving up and doing nothing or moving forward and arrive at the finish line is in our power of making).

Let us all choose to move on with our life as we make our dream a reality. God who knows everything even before the story ever started has a good plan for each one of us, so do not stop just because someone talks evil about us. Forgive and love those who persecute us as we pursue our dream and make it happen.
