Here Am I, Send Me

Here Am I , Send Me

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” (Isaiah 6:8 NKJV)

That evening a father came home past 8 pm in the evening from work, it was a long day for him and he looked tired. His wife Jennifer was busy taking care of their three children, Susan the youngest of three was seven years old, Jeremy was nine years of age and Mary was twelve years old. She too was tired that evening, Aaron her husband noticed how tired his wife was and asked his children who among them would like to help mom clean the kitchen and wash the dishes. Jeremy got up and made his way to the kitchen followed by Mary.

This story was common and we have seen it time and again. But have you ever wondered why the Omniscience (All-Knowing) God asked this question? Could it be that He wanted someone with a willing heart to step forward and tell Him to send him? Did God really look for a volunteer? When God created man, He created male and female with freedom of choice, because He wanted to have a relationship with man that is based on love. Surely, God was able to send His angels to do His will but He wanted to have a surrendered heart that was willing to do His will out of love among men.

Young Isaiah heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Isaiah responded to the voice he heard for he knew that it was a divine commission “Who will go for Us?” Right here, we witness a cooperation between God who “sent” and the human who responded, “I will go.” At the same time we witness a conversation between the Trinity and the flow between “I” as in “Whom shall I send” to “Us” as in “Who will go for us”. The demonstration of the Trinity, One God in three persons!

How many of us would respond to His call when we heard His voice, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” He is still looking for volunteers today with a surrendered heart who is willing to be sent, “Here am I! Send me.” It starts with one individual who is willing to be sent. Do not wait for a companion, He will provide in due season. My brother, who is a surgeon, answered His call to be sent in the medical missions when he heard His voice. Not too long after he said “Yes, Lord”, he took action, sold one of his houses and bought a boat to be converted into a floating hospital, so he can travel from one island to the other in Indonesia to help the less fortunate people, all for free.

Do you hear His voice? Are you willing to be sent to do His will? Do you have a surrendered heart filled with passion to help those who cried “come and help us”? Are you willing to sacrifice your time, your skill, your wealth to help the less fortunate ones? Do you hear their cry filled with pain both physically and emotionally? When was the last time they saw food? When was the last time they saw missionary, doctors, and nurses? My prayer, may you respond to His voice, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” “Here am I! Send me.” Amen!
