People Of The Day

12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. (Romans 13:12-14 NKJV)

When I was a child (five years old), I went to bed very early, the latest at seven O'clock in the evening. But I woke up very early too, at five in the morning and I was so ready to get out of the bed to play. My mother kept on telling me "go back to sleep, it is too early and wait for the rooster to crow then you can get up and play". Her advice did not work because I knew exactly what a difference it made once I was on my feet. Once I was on my feet, there was a lot of things I could do.

The habit of waking up early is still there though I go to bed late at night. There are a lot of things we can do when our day starts early. Have you ever noticed when dawn is coming and you open your eyes, you will see that the day will become brighter as the sun rises - dark has to go as the sun appears. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light as the Bible tells us. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

Can you imagine what will happen to us when we put on the Lord Jesus Christ? When we put on the Lord Jesus Christ, He becomes the armor that we wear, He becomes our shield, He covers us completely, He is our hiding place and He becomes a place of refuge for us. Though we have put on the Lord Jesus Christ, we still need to fulfill the call not to make provision for our flesh, to fulfill its lusts. This can happen when we choose freely to starve the will of our flesh and feed our soul with things that are true, things that are noble, things that are just, things that are pure, things that are lovely, things that are of good report (Philippians 4:8). Amen!
